2013-10-09 - New model of the BMW GS-series

BMW Motorrad has expanded its model range with the new BMW R1200GS Adventure. The BMW R1200GS with flat-engine is considered as the number one among touring motorcycles and is particularly popular within bikers who like to travel off-road.

Just like the R1200GS, the R1200GS Adventure has an air-and liquid cooled boxer-engine with 1170 cm³ capacity and has respectable 92 kW (125 PS) at 7 750/min-1. The new BMW R1200GS Adventure offers precision cooling. So instead of oil, water is used as frigistor. The Adventure promises more power by the vertical flow of the engine as well as by the use of the integrated six-speed transmission including wet clutch. A highlight is the maintenance-free shaft drive, which is for the first time on the left sight at a BMW Boxer series-motorcycle. To improve the off-road capability once again the power drive was furnished with about 950 grams more gyrating mass and an additional vibration damper in the drive chain.
The robust and torsion-stiff latticed tubular steel frame remains unchanged in contrast to the tank which is, on the one hand, now made of lightweight aluminum and on the other hand it has a larger capacity (30 liters; + 10 liters with a view to the R 1200 GS). As standard equipment there is ABS, ASC (Automatic Stability Control) and the two driving modes "Rain" and "Road". With the help of these two modes you can easily adapt the driving characteristics to the road conditions. This provides a larger range of use as well as more security on a poor surface.
The special equipment provides the possibility to choose between the three additional driving modes "Dynamic", "Enduro" and "Enduro Pro”.
Thanks to the new designed body extent the R 1200 GS defines its capability to travel not only visual. Also the chassis with 20 millimeters longer spring deflexions, extended ground clearance and adapted geometry of the trailing arm for even better handling emphasises that fact. A manually adjustable windscreen, hand protectors and more air blades, called "flaps”, offer optimal wind screen for long and balanced trips whether you drive on the road or apart from it.
