Touring windshield for BMW R1300RT

For long distance rides the Touring series was developped to minimize the windblast against the rider. This screen raises the windblast for several centimeters, allowing the rider to keep a more comfortable position riding the motorcycle. The aerodynamically optimized center section of the windscreen reduces turbulence and provides improved wind protection. An integrated upper flip deflects the airflow upward, reducing pressure especially in the rider's head and ear area. An air channel and the central opening also significantly reduce wind noise at higher speeds. The side and lower sections of the windscreen are precisely matched to the front of the BMW R1300RT, improving lateral protection while ensuring a seamless and harmonious integration into the vehicle's overall design.

BMW R1300R conversion by Hornig More character. More control. More R1300R.

With selected components, we transform the BMW R1300R into a roadster that perfectly combines safety, comfort, and individuality.
The BMW R1300R already stands for powerful roadster character, cutting-edge technology, and the unmistakable dynamics of the boxer engine as standard. But at Hornig, we see it primarily as one thing: the perfect foundation to get even more out of this motorcycle. With carefully selected components, we refine the machine step by step - for more control in everyday riding, more comfort on longer journeys, and an even more striking presence on the road.
Our goal is clear: to further sharpen the personality of the BMW R1300R. Through intelligent protection solutions, practical additions for touring and daily use, as well as high-quality design accents, a roadster is created that impresses functionally while showcasing its individuality more strongly than ever. In this way, an already impressive motorcycle becomes a machine with even more character.

Protection solutions for technology and structure

An important aspect of our conversion is the protection of sensitive components. The crash pads for the fork ends consist of precisely manufactured plastic elements combined with a bracket made of anodized aluminum. This construction helps to significantly reduce potential damage in the fork area in the event of a fall.
The engine area also receives additional protection. Our crash bars are specially developed for the BMW R1300R and are made of robust, black powder-coated steel in a satin finish. They blend harmoniously into the lines of the boxer engine and distribute occurring forces evenly in an emergency. Practical for daily use: they do not need to be dismantled for regular maintenance work and are mounted directly to the original mounting points.
In addition, the plastic crash bar pads provide extra protection for the crash bars against abrasion or damage. At the same time, they add a subtle visual accent and are easy to install.
The radiator also benefits from extra protection. The radiator guard features a sturdily constructed frame that prevents vibration or fluttering. A special high-pressure bonding technology creates an exceptionally strong connection between the mesh and the frame - durable protection with a sporty look.

More safety in road traffic

Good visibility in traffic is crucial. The Wolo Very Loud horn produces a sound pressure of 115 decibels at a distance of one meter, ensuring a clear acoustic signal. Thanks to its compact design, this horn can be easily integrated into the motorcycle.
Our LED auxiliary light kit provides additional visibility. Modern LED technology enables intense illumination at night, while during the day, the motorcycle's presence is significantly increased for other road users. The wide beam of light also covers the edge of the road. High-quality LED chips and an aluminum housing ensure a long service life. Due to the sealed construction, the lights meet the waterproof IP67 standard.
A clear rear view also contributes to safety. Our mirror wideners move the rear-view mirrors slightly further outward, expanding the field of vision and reducing the amount of the rider's shoulders visible in the mirror.
Furthermore, the hand protectors increase riding comfort in cool temperatures or rain. They shield the hands from wind and moisture, helping the rider stay focused and relaxed even in changing weather conditions.

Daily suitability and ease of use

The operation of the machine can also be optimized. The aluminum gear shift lever extension expands the contact surface of the lever, improving grip during shifting. At the same time, it creates a sporty addition to the foot controls.
When parking the motorcycle, the sidestand enlargement provides significantly more stability. Due to the increased surface area, the machine stands more securely even on softer or uneven ground. This component is made of CNC-machined aluminum with a black anodized surface.
For maintenance work or longer periods of storage, the center stand is a particularly practical addition. It impresses with a precise fit, high stability, and a reliable stand, making it ideal for maintenance tasks, for example.
Those traveling longer distances also benefit from the thermoformed TANKLOCK tank bag with a 15-liter volume, along with the matching tank fitting. Reflective elements increase visibility, while a rain cover, a transparent smartphone compartment, and lockable zippers significantly increase practical utility in everyday life and on trips.

Fine details for a high-quality look

Many small components contribute to further refining the character of the BMW R1300R. The stainless steel handlebar end weights combine elegant design with functional mass to reduce vibrations without changing the overall width of the motorcycle. A stylish detail in the cockpit area is the aluminum steering head cap with emblem. It provides a high-quality cover for the steering head and is securely fixed using an O-ring. The silver anodized aluminum oil plug replaces the standard part with a visually sophisticated version that can be opened with a Torx tool. Further visual accents are set by the covers for the open tubes of the engine mount, which are mounted on the side behind the cylinder, as well as the swingarm pivot cover, which neatly closes off the area on the shaft drive. A special detail is also the wheel axle cover with emblem. In addition to its decorative effect, the special hole arrangement can positively influence the airflow in the corresponding area.
The neon yellow rim stickers with the R1300R motorcycle model designation also ensure a striking appearance. This is complemented by the decorative sticker set, which was specially designed for both sides of the vehicle and emphasizes the lines of the motorcycle.
A particular highlight in terms of individualization is our seat conversion. For the rider seat conversion, we use high-quality double stitching combined with "R" lettering, creating a sporty and elegant look. The pillion seat conversion also consistently adopts this design and is also executed with precise double stitching and lettering on both sides. This concept is complemented by the refined center tank section, which, newly upholstered with quilted elements, double stitching, and matching lettering, harmoniously rounds off the overall image. The result is a consistent, sophisticated design and a perfect combination of style and sportiness.
Rounding off the rear section is the variable stainless steel license plate holder, which can be adjusted in width and height.

Protection for the modern Connectivity display

We have also taken the digital cockpit of the BMW R1300R into account. The sunshade for the 6.5-inch display reduces annoying reflections in direct sunlight and thus improves the readability of the instrument. The component is made of UV-resistant plastic and is designed for long-term use. In addition, our display protection films ensure that the surface of the display remains protected from scratches or damage.

The Hornig BMW R1300R - A Roadster with personality

With this conversion, we show how the BMW R1300R can be specifically further developed. Through the combination of protection components, high-quality materials, clever comfort solutions, and individual design elements, a motorcycle is created that not only impresses functionally but also makes a clear visual statement. In the end, there is a BMW R1300R that offers noticeably more control in daily riding, further expands its comfort on long distances, and radiates an even stronger personality at the same time. It is exactly this balance of technology, safety, and design that characterizes our conversion and shows how a strong roadster becomes a motorcycle with even more character.

Changing Spark Plugs on a BMW DOHC Boxer Engine on a BMW Motorcycle

Hello everyone! Welcome to Hornig – today we're focusing on the heartbeat of your boxer engine: the spark plugs.

What you'll need: New spark plugs, the correct spark plug wrench, and, very importantly, our ignition coil puller. You'll also need a torque wrench and pliers.

Changing the spark plugs is crucial for the smooth running and performance of your BMW. Before we begin, here's the most important tip: The engine should be cold or only lukewarm!

When the engine is warm, it expands, making it difficult or even impossible to change the spark plugs without damaging them. Safety first!

We'll start with the main spark plug. First, remove the ignition coil cover and disconnect the cable.

To remove the ignition coil more easily and without damaging it, use our ignition coil puller along with a pair of pliers. This will allow you to remove the coil cleanly and safely.

The spark plug is now exposed. Take your spark plug wrench and carefully loosen the plug. Then, carefully remove it with pliers.

Now for the secondary spark plug. To access it, you must first remove the cylinder head cover and then the ignition cable.

The secondary spark plug is removed in the same way as the main spark plug: loosen it and carefully pull it out.

Now it's time to install the new spark plugs. Insert them carefully – never at an angle! – and then tighten them to the correct torque.

The secondary spark plug is now removed in the same way as the main spark plug: loosen it, then carefully pull it out. Once everything is secure, the fairing parts, ignition cable, and ignition coil cover are reinstalled in reverse order.

That's it! Your boxer engine is now ready for thousands more miles. You can find the right tools and spark plugs in our shop, of course.

Do you have any questions? Leave them in the comments and visit our shop for more DIY tips and high-quality accessories. Cheers, see you in the next video!

BMW R1300RT conversion by Hornig Touring expertise meets uncompromising comfort

The motto "Touring expertise meets uncompromising comfort" perfectly sums up what our professional conversion turns the BMW R1300RT into: a motorcycle that travels even more confidently over long distances, offers greater safety in everyday use, and at the same time gains an unmistakable signature through exclusive details. With our high-quality accessories, a touring machine is created that combines comfort, protection and individuality in a harmonious overall package.

It all begins with the area of comfort: The gear lever extension ensures that the foot has noticeably more contact surface, making gear changes significantly safer and more pleasant, which leads to more relaxed riding especially on long tours. At the same time, the look becomes sportier, giving the BMW R1300RT an extra touch of dynamism. Even when parking, the advantage of our accessories becomes immediately noticeable. The side stand extension significantly enlarges the contact surface and ensures that the BMW R1300RT stands much more stable even on loose ground or uneven surfaces. The precisely machined aluminum solution blends harmoniously into the overall appearance, can be installed quickly and greatly improves everyday usability. For a relaxed riding posture on long journeys, the handlebar area has also been optimized. The stainless steel handlebar end weights combine an elegant look with functional added value without changing the width of the motorcycle. In combination with the handlebar riser, which raises the handlebar by 35 millimeters, the result is a significantly more ergonomic seating position. Shoulders and wrists are relieved, while control over the BMW R1300RT is noticeably improved – a comfort gain that impresses on every tour. To ensure that the modern touring equipment of the BMW R1300RT can also be used optimally from a technical perspective, the motorcycle has been enhanced with practical electronic solutions. The Wireless Charger charging pad fits perfectly into the small storage compartment and allows wireless charging of the smartphone simply by placing it on top. With up to 15 watts of charging power, the device remains reliably supplied without annoying cables hanging around the cockpit area. Since the charging electronics are integrated into the USB cable, the charging pad does not heat up during the charging process. In addition, the precisely fitting GPS mount ensures that the navigation device can be quickly attached or removed – vibration-free and with optimal display readability even at higher speeds.

Alongside comfort, our conversion of the BMW R1300RT clearly places the topic of safety at the center. Particularly sensitive components benefit from targeted protection. The sturdy radiator guard reliably protects the radiator from stone impacts and dirt without any rattling. This is made possible by a robust frame and high-quality high-pressure adhesive technology that permanently bonds the guard and frame together. In addition to its protective function, it also creates a visual upgrade at the front. For additional protection in the event of tip-overs or minor falls, we rely on the crash pads for fork ends. This effectively protects the fork from damage. Clear visibility of important information also plays a crucial role in riding safety. The high-quality sun glare protection significantly improves the readability of the connectivity display, especially in low sunlight. In addition, display protection films prevent scratches and damage during daily use, ensuring that the display of the BMW R1300RT remains clearly readable over the long term. Another key focus of this conversion is improved visibility to other road users: The 4-piece reflective foil set for the original side cases greatly increases the signal effect and ensures that the BMW R1300RT is recognized much more quickly in traffic. Especially at dusk, in rain or in poor lighting conditions, this noticeably enhances passive safety. When it comes to active visibility and being seen, the LED auxiliary headlights, mounted on a specially manufactured bracket, provide a particularly effective solution. Modern LED technology ensures extremely bright illumination of the road at night while also improving the motorcycle’s visibility during the day. The extra-wide light beam also illuminates the roadside, which is a clear safety advantage especially on country roads. High-performance LED chips, a sturdy aluminum housing and robust mounting stand for durability and quality.

In addition to comfort and protection, a premium touring machine like the BMW R1300RT naturally also deserves a personal touch of style: We offer numerous options to visibly refine the motorcycle and give it a more exclusive appearance. One example is the cover for the bearing pin. It provides a clean finish on the cardan drive and noticeably enhances the high-quality impression. Another elegant detail is the wheel axle cover with emblem. It not only makes a clear visual statement but also provides a functional advantage. The special arrangement of the holes creates increased airflow, which positively supports cooling. It is precisely this combination of design and benefit that makes our products for the BMW R1300RT so attractive. High-quality details with a clear effect can also be found in the cockpit area. The silver anodized steering head lock cover cap made of aluminum blends perfectly into the motorcycle’s design with its matte surface structure. The centrally placed Hornig emblem provides a subtle yet effective enhancement. Thanks to high surface hardness and excellent corrosion resistance, this component is not only visually impressive but also designed for long-term use. An O-ring ensures a secure fit during installation and reliably seals against dust and moisture at the same time. A true eye-catcher in terms of individuality is the elaborate seat conversion. The rider seat conversion uses different types of leather, double stitching and the “RT” lettering. The passenger seat conversion is also implemented with various leather types, quilting, double stitching and lettering on the left and right. The refinement is completed by the backrest padding conversion, which in turn includes multiple leather types, quilting and double stitching. The result is a high-quality handcrafted look that perfectly combines individuality and touring character. The sporty design lines are also deliberately emphasized. The red decor sticker set was developed precisely for the left and right side of the BMW R1300RT and ensures that the motorcycle’s shapes and contours stand out even more. In addition, rim stripe stickers in white and red provide striking color accents that round off the overall appearance and stylishly complete the individuality.

With this holistic concept, we demonstrate how the BMW R1300RT can be further developed in a targeted and high-quality way. Through ergonomic improvements, well-designed protective components and exclusive design elements, a “new” R1300RT is created with increased touring performance combined with uncompromising comfort and safety.

Changing Brake Fluid on a BMW Motorcycle

Hello everyone! Welcome to a new DIY tip from Hornig.

Today we'll show you how to easily change the brake fluid in the upper reservoir of your BMW. Safety comes first, so this change is essential for braking performance!
What you'll need: New brake fluid – you can find our high-quality option from our shop, as always, via the link in the description. You'll also need a syringe, an empty container, a suitable wrench for the bleed screw, a screwdriver for the reservoir cap, and a clean cloth.
Before you begin, adjust the handlebars so that the brake fluid reservoir is level. Very important: Place a cloth under the reservoir. Brake fluid is corrosive and can damage paint!
Now we open the cap. The original reservoir cap usually indicates the required brake fluid standard, for example, DOT 4 or DOT 5. Make sure you use the correct standard!
Now remove the old, often dark, brake fluid. The best way to do this is carefully with a syringe. Pour the old fluid directly into an empty, labeled container for later disposal.
Fill the reservoir with the new brake fluid. And now for the most important step: bleeding the brakes.

First step: Pump the brake lever several times until you feel firm pressure.

Second step: Hold the brake lever down.

Third step: Now slightly open the bleed screw at the bottom of the brake caliper. The brake lever will then move all the way to the grip.

Fourth step: Close the screw immediately! Only then release the brake lever.

Repeat this process until only new, clear brake fluid comes out of the entire system. Keep checking the upper reservoir and refill with fresh fluid as needed to prevent air from entering the system!
Caution! If your BMW has two brake calipers, you must repeat this entire process on the other side.
Once everything is clear and you have the desired brake feel, the change is complete. Now thoroughly clean the cap and the rubber seal and allow them to dry completely. If the seal is damp, leaks can occur later.

At Hornig, we naturally place the highest value on product quality, precision fit, and durability. This is our promise to ensure you achieve maximum value retention and appreciation for your BMW motorcycles.
Remember: The best brake fluid is useless without proper maintenance and the right accessories. So, visit our shop and buy what will keep your BMW happy!

Cardan Oil Change on a BMW Motorcycle

Hello everyone!

Welcome to a new DIY tip from Hornig. Today we're focusing on the longevity of your drivetrain: changing the final drive oil.

First, we prepare for draining. Place an empty container under the drain plug. Make sure the container is large enough to hold the entire amount of oil and that the old oil will be disposed of properly later.

Loosen the lower drain plug and let the old final drive oil drain completely. Ideally, it should still be warm, as this will make it drain more easily and completely.

While the remaining oil is dripping, we'll take care of the drain plug. Tip: Many drain plugs have a magnet on the inside. Clean it thoroughly to remove any metal shavings.

Now for the seal replacement: Be sure to replace the O-ring on the drain plug with a new one! For easier installation and a perfect fit, you can lightly oil the O-ring.

Next, remove the upper filler plug. Clean it as well and fit it with a new copper washer.

Once all the old oil has drained out, reinstall the drain plug and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque.

Now for filling: Fill the new final drive oil into a syringe or a special oil filling aid. Pay close attention to the viscosity specified by the manufacturer and – very importantly – the exact fill quantity.

Fill the correct amount through the upper opening into the final drive.

Once the correct fill level is reached, clean the opening and install the filler plug with the new copper washer.

Done! With this simple step, you'll ensure maximum value retention and smooth running for your BMW. You can find all the necessary seals and oils of the highest quality in our Hornig Shop. If this video helped you, please give us a like and subscribe to the channel. See you in the next video!

25 Years of Motorcycle Parts Hornig From humble beginnings to a global market player

This year, we are already celebrating our 25th company anniversary!

Since our founding, a lot has happened. It all began in 2001, when our company founder Helmut Hornig developed the first theft-proof oil filler cap, laying the foundation for our business. The idea was born during a motorcycle tour through Italy: unknown people had unscrewed the oil cap from his BMW and taken it as a souvenir. Since an open oil filler neck can cause serious engine damage if other liquids or dirt mix with the oil, the trained mechanical engineer developed a secure solution back home - an oil cap that can only be removed using an Allen key. This innovation perfectly met the needs of many BMW riders, and the oil cap became a bestseller.

Initially based in the increasingly cramped premises in Ritzenried, we decided in 2010 to move to a new, larger company building in Cham. There, our product range grew continuously and now includes over 4,000 specially developed accessories for BMW motorcycles. Our portfolio is constantly being expanded, allowing us to equip both older models and the latest BMW motorcycles with innovative, high-quality products. Several times a year, we refine current BMW models with accessories from our own range for greater safety, increased riding comfort, and a distinctive individual look. In addition, we devote ourselves whenever possible to special projects: older motorcycles are transformed by us into modern retro scramblers that are guaranteed to attract attention. These custom builds can be admired online, in our showroom in Cham, or at trade fairs. BMW motorcycle fans can also look forward to real highlights in 2026: our elaborately refined custom builds of the new BMW R1300RT, R1300R, and R1300RS are already lined up and ready to be presented in detail.

Our award-winning online shop, honored with accolades such as the Website and Usability Award, invites BMW motorcycle enthusiasts to browse extensively. Customers can find perfectly matched accessories for their specific motorcycle model. If questions or suggestions arise, our knowledgeable service team is available by email, phone, or - whenever possible - personally on-site in Cham. For many products, we also provide installation videos to make assembly quick and easy.

The combination of high product quality, reliable customer service, and our passion for BMW motorcycles forms the foundation of our success. To meet the ever-growing demand, we expanded our company building in 2016 with additional shipping stations and doubled our storage capacity, enabling us to deliver to customers worldwide even faster. Visit us at www.mhornig.com and explore our range. Surely, the right accessory for you is waiting!

Changing the Air Filter on a BMW Motorcycle

Hello everyone! Welcome to a new DIY tip from Hornig. Today we're taking care of your motorcycle's "lungs": changing the air filter.

A clean air filter is essential for optimal performance and efficient fuel consumption. If it's clogged, your BMW will noticeably suffer. What you'll need today: The new, high-quality air filter from Hornig and the necessary tools for removing the fairing – usually Torx or Allen wrenches.

To access the filter, we need to expose some parts on most BMW models. We'll first remove the seats and then the tank fairing. Be careful not to damage any clips or paint.

Important: Depending on the BMW model, the air filter may be located in a different place, for example, under the tank or on the side. But don't worry: The procedure for changing it is always the same!

The air filter box is now located under the tank fairing. Open the designated latches or screws.

Remove the old, dirty air filter. You'll often see immediately how much dust and dirt it has accumulated over time.

Very important step: Before installing the new filter, please thoroughly clean the air filter box! Remove dust, sand, leaves, or other contaminants. A vacuum cleaner or a clean cloth will do the trick.

Now install the new air filter. Make sure it's seated correctly so that it seals properly and no unfiltered air enters the engine.

The replacement is complete. Now we reassemble all the fairing parts in reverse order. Make sure to tighten all the screws and clips correctly so that nothing rattles on your next ride.

Tip: You can find the right filter for your model, guaranteeing the highest product quality and a perfect fit, in our shop!

Measuring the Oil Level on BMW Motorrad Engines

Hello and welcome! Welcome to our Hornig Mechanic Tips.
The oil level – essential for your engine's longevity. But how do you measure it correctly? Let's start with the preparations that are the same for all models.

Tip in advance: Make sure to place your motorcycle on the center stand or a suitable lifter so it stands absolutely level. Then let the engine warm up. After that, switch it off and give it about 10 minutes to cool down. Only then do we measure the oil level.

Let's start with measuring on our BMW 2-cylinder engines. Here we use the classic dipstick.
Unscrew the dipstick and wipe it clean carefully.
Now insert it back into the opening until it seats – important: don't screw it in! Then pull it out again and read the level. It should be between the minimum and maximum markings.

With the BMW boxer engine, checking is even easier. Here the oil level is checked conveniently and quickly through the oil sight glass.
The oil level should ideally be in the upper third of the sight glass, but never exceed the maximum mark.
If your oil sight glass already shows signs of age or cracks and readability is impaired, you can quickly and easily purchase a new, perfectly fitting replacement glass in our online shop.

A correctly measured oil level is a small but important contribution to maintaining your bike.
Do you have any questions? Write them in the comments and visit our shop for more mechanic tips and high-quality accessories. See you in the next video!

The new BMW F450GS The most authentic entry into the GS world yet

With the introduction of the BMW F 450 GS, BMW Motorrad is launching a fully-fledged adventure model for the 48 hp/A2 license class that combines classic GS DNA with modern technology and a compact overall package.

Agility and versatility in focus
This bike has been specifically designed for a low weight of just 178 kg, combined with an output of 35 kW (48 hp) at 8,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm.
This makes the F 450 GS ideal for riders who enjoy both on-road and light off-road riding.
The ergonomics are designed for versatility: a high and close-positioned handlebar, a 14-liter fuel tank, and a seat height of 845 mm ensure an upright riding position and secure knee grip both on- and off-road.

Engineering with ambition
At its heart is a newly developed parallel-twin engine with 420 cc, a 135-degree crankpin offset, and just one balance shaft – resulting in a characterful power delivery, smooth operation, and a modern design with minimal internal friction.
The chassis features a tubular steel frame integrating the engine as a load-bearing element, a 43 mm upside-down telescopic fork at the front, and a hollow-cast aluminum dual swingarm with a central spring strut at the rear.
In the “Sport” and “GS Trophy” trims, a sport suspension is included with adjustable rebound and compression damping – ideal for more ambitious off-road or sporty riding.
The braking system includes a high-quality 310 mm single front disc with a four-piston fixed caliper (by Brembo) and a 240 mm rear disc – combined with standard ABS Pro, including cornering ABS, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), and engine drag torque control (MSR).

Comfort, connectivity & equipment
The standard equipment package leaves nothing to be desired: LED main headlight with distinctive “X”-shaped daytime running light, a large 6.5-inch TFT display with smartphone integration, and a USB-C port in the cockpit area.
The standard riding modes “Rain,” “Road,” and “Enduro” are included – with the “Exclusive” trim adding the “Enduro Pro” mode, which, among other things, allows rear ABS deactivation for off-road use.
A special feature: the “Easy Ride Clutch” (ERC) – an advanced centrifugal clutch, standard on the GS Trophy variant and available as an accessory for all other versions. In combination with the optional Shift Assistant Pro, manual clutch operation can be omitted when desired.

Style & model overview
Visually, the F 450 GS adopts the typical GS design language. The model range is divided into four variants:
Base in Cosmic Black
Exclusive, also in Cosmic Black, featuring off-road footrests, hand guards, plastic engine guard, clear windscreen, riding modes Pro, and Quickshifter Pro
Sport in Racing Red with sport suspension and further upgrades
GS Trophy in Racing Blue metallic with rally windscreen, aluminum engine guard, and ERC as standard
With the F 450 GS, BMW Motorrad offers a motorcycle aimed at those who don’t just want an entry-level bike, but a true GS experience in a compact form. Riders who value agility, off-road capability, advanced technology, and iconic GS styling will find a model here that makes virtually no compromises – despite its A2 license classification.

Pricing structure
The pricing is as follows:
Base variant from €7,220
“Exclusive” variant: + €300
“Sport” variant: + €450
“GS Trophy” variant: + €770
