The stock suspension of the BMW F450GS is generally well matched, but the rebound damping is set too firm, which compromises comfort and traction, especially on rough roads. Wilbers shock absorbers are individually tuned to the rider and intended use, featuring optimized rebound and compression damping for greater stability, improved road contact and feedback, as well as noticeably enhanced riding comfort.

The Wilbers Type 641 Competition shock absorber unlocks the full potential of the BMW F450GS suspension. While the stock suspension reaches its limits, particularly on rough roads and during demanding off-road riding, the 641 Competition is individually configured to match the rider, load, and intended use. The result is significantly more precise handling, improved traction, and noticeably enhanced riding comfort. Individual spring rates and damping settings ensure that the motorcycle remains controlled and confident on both winding country roads and gravel tracks.

The Competition shock absorber features an external reservoir connected via a flexible braided hose. This allows the reservoir to be mounted in the optimal position, even when installation space on the motorcycle is limited. At the same time, the external positioning improves cooling and ensures consistently stable damping performance, even under heavy loads and demanding conditions.

For maximum adjustability, the Type 641 offers 22-click rebound damping adjustment, 22-click high-speed compression damping adjustment, 22-click low-speed compression damping adjustment, and continuously adjustable spring preload. This allows the suspension to be precisely tuned to different road conditions, loads, and riding styles – from sporty road riding to demanding adventure tours. While the standard spring preload adjustment is carried out using the included hook spanner, the optional hydraulic version allows for a significantly easier and more convenient adjustment via a handwheel. When your vehicle is carrying a heavier load, the correct ride height can thus be restored in no time without having to use a hook spanner.
