The new BMW S1000XR 2019-11-14 - long-distance performance combined with sportiness
The new S1000XR leaves no room for criticism. The perfect combination of sportiness and long-distance performance makes the S1000XR the perfect motorcycle for perfectionists. Equipped with Dynamic ESA, drive modes Pro, DTC, Hillstart Control Pro and ABS Pro, the S1000XR leaves nothing to be desired. The driving pleasure is increased to the maximum. Since the S1000XR is 10kg lighter than its predecessor, although it lacks nothing in equipment, the driver noticeably experiences the better acceleration, the shorter braking distances, the higher agility and the easier maneuvering.
The sportiness of the RR and the excellent ergonomics of the touring models with the upright and relaxed sitting posture are by far not the only highlights on the new XR. The revised aerodynamics and the fairing additionally protect you even better from cooling down, from the driving noise and from wind and weather. The adjustable windshield also shows how much fun driving is without helmet shaking.
The XR appears on the market in the vivid trend colors Racingred & Icegrey, which are definitely an eye-catcher on the road. But let's now talk about the inner values of the S1000XR: the engine of the XR is based on the four-cylinder in-line engine of its predecessor and has a power of 121 kW (165 hp) at 11,000 min-1. However, in order to do justice to the long-distance performance, BMW built special camshaft profiles and its own manifolds for impressive moment of torque and the widest usable speed range in its class, which makes drivability more harmonious. The longer gear in the upper gears, which you can clearly feel and hear, ensures a smooth running. In addition to the anti-hopping clutch, an engine drag torque control (MSR) was installed for the first time in the new S1000XR. MSR prevents the annoying slippage of the rear wheel, which is caused by abrupt deceleration or downshifting.
The new 6.5-inch TFT display has been specially developed for the S1000XR. The TFT offers four different settings, which can be individually adjusted to the ride.
In the case of an accident, BMW also ensures greater safety here. The "Intelligent Distress Call" ECALL, developed by BMW, automatically contacts the BMW Call Center so that the task forces can arrive at the scene of the accident more quickly and better prepared.
As a further feature, the S1000XR has four different driving modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic, Dynamic Pro) as standard. Thus, the XR has extensive settings that are available.
In addition, the XR has the electronic suspension Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) of the latest generation. The versatile adventure sports motorcycle offers a particularly dynamic driving experience and a high level of riding comfort. This is possible thanks to the latest valve technology. The optional extras include Dynamic ESA Pro with two damping modes (Dynamic, Road) and automatic load balancing. The DBC (Dynamic Brake Control) was first installed on the S1000XR and supports the driver in braking maneuvers.
