🛠️ 1. Regular 10,000km service (6,000 miles)

Every 10,000km or every 6,000 miles – e.g. This service includes, for example, at 10,000 km, 30,000 km, 50,000 km, 70,000 km, 90,000 km, etc. – this service includes:

  • - Diagnosis with BMW Motorrad diagnostic device & vehicle test
  • - Engine oil change including filter
  • - Check cardan shaft oil or change if necessary (every 2 years / 20,000 km)
  • - Check brake fluid and replace if necessary
  • - Check coolant level, tire pressure/tread
  • - Check brake pads, brake lines & discs
  • - Check battery, lights, indicators, center & side stands, and chassis components
  • - Final functional test & entry in service booklet

🔧 2. Major 20,000km Service (12,000 miles)

In addition to the 10,000km maintenance (at 20,000km, 40,000km, 60,000km, 80,000km, 100,000km, etc.), we perform, for example:

  • - Checking and adjusting valve clearance
  • - Changing spark plugs
  • - Replacing the air filter (recommended annually for off-road use)
  • - Changing the cardan shaft oil (if not already changed)

⏱️ 3. Time-based Recommendations

Regardless of mileage, we recommend an annual service – at least every 10,000km. The brake fluid is changed after the first year and then every two years. In addition, BMW carries out a cardan shaft inspection and possible replacement at approximately 60,000 km as part of a service campaign.

BMW initiated a large-scale campaign in which up to 440,000 GS models (from 2013) were taken in for cardan shaft inspection and retrofitting a bleeder valve to prevent premature wear.

🧰 4. Technical Data & Additional Values

  • - Cardan shaft oil quantity: 180 ml 75W-90 GL-5 (all models 2013–2018)
  • - Engine oil: SAE 5W-40, approximately 4 liters with Filter
  • - Brake fluid: DOT4
  • - Coolant: approx. 1.75 l water + solution
