Efficient oil cooling is crucial for the service life and performance of the boxer engine in your BMW R100GS, BMW R100GS Paris-Dakar, BMW R100R, BMW R100RS Classic, or BMW R100RT Classic. In addition to lubrication, engine oil also plays an important role in heat dissipation. Especially at higher temperatures or during sporty riding, an additional oil cooler can significantly reduce oil temperature and thus provide lasting protection for the engine. At Hornig, you will find suitable oil cooling components specifically designed for classic two-valve boxer engines.
The Oil Cooler Kit is the central solution for retrofitting effective oil cooling. It ensures a significant reduction in oil temperature while simultaneously improving the engine’s lubrication performance – especially under high loads or in summer temperatures. This reduces wear and extends the engine’s service life. The kit is specifically developed for R2V models and represents an ideal addition for performance-optimized engines.
The SH Oil Thermostat provides demand-based control of the oil flow to the oil cooler. The circuit to the cooler only opens at around 90 °C, allowing the engine to reach its optimal operating temperature more quickly while also preventing overcooling. This intelligent regulation is particularly important for consistent engine performance and long durability.
Suitable connection components are required to integrate an oil cooler. The oil filter cover for oil cooler line connection and the oil filter head with line connection to the oil cooler enable a secure connection between the engine and the cooling system. These components are precisely designed for R2V boxer engines and ensure reliable oil flow throughout the entire system.
Other essential components include the long oil filter tube for models with oil cooler and the banjo bolt for oil cooler retrofit. These parts ensure proper oil routing and are necessary for operating the oil cooling system safely and completely. Especially during retrofits or engine overhauls, these components should be taken into account to guarantee optimal functionality.
In classic BMW R100 engines, the standard cooling via the oil pan is often sufficient – however, under higher loads or in performance-optimized engines, additional oil cooling can offer decisive advantages. Lower oil temperatures ensure more stable lubrication conditions, reduce wear, and contribute to consistent power delivery. Especially on long tours, in high ambient temperatures, or during sporty riding, you benefit from a stable thermal balance.
All oil cooling components in the Hornig range are specifically developed for air-cooled two-valve boxer engines and fit numerous R100 models. They can be optimally integrated into existing systems and provide a durable solution for improved cooling, greater reliability, and enhanced engine performance – whether in everyday use, on tours, or in performance-oriented modifications.
